Modular forms are everywhere. This is the title of one of the veterans of the field's, Don Zagier's, birthday conference from 2017. When taken with a grain of salt it is literally true. The book "Harmonic Maass Forms and Mock Modular Forms: Theory and Applications" by Kathrin Bringmann, Amanda Folsom, Ken Ono, and Larry Rolen tries to familiarize the reader with one recent offspring of the field, namely harmonic (weak) Maass forms.
