摘要

This white paper looks at services on top of Universal Ethernet Telecommunications System (UETS), the proposal for an Ethernet-based carrier-grade backbone for fourth generation (4G), with an emphasis on providing a unified service access and delivery methodology after removing the transmission control protocol /Internet protocol (TCP/IP) stack. The paper provides the feeds for the discussion to move to a UETS infrastructure to benefit from the intrinsic advantages: mobility, security, scalability, and simplicity. It introduces the UETS multimedia subsystem (UMS), the logical successor of the IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), providing the services as defined by the various standard bodies on top of Ethernet to create fully converged networks (e.g., Wi-Fi, WiMAX, 802.3 Ethernet) and services within the core network.
