1. Kariwara has now become a generic thin-line towed array sonar technology. 2. Used as basis for equipment offered by Thales Underwater Systems.3. Civilian applications of this technology outweigh military. Description. Kariwara has ceased to be a discrete product. Instead, it has become a generic name for Australian-originated thin-line towed-array sonar technology. This basic technology has now been implemented under a variety of military and civilian program names. Information is sparse, and even what is available is often contradictory. Just to add to the confusion, the military and civil versions of the basic technology are in the hands of different government departments, each of which acts as a prime contractor for its own small part of the overall effort. Finally, each of the companies involved is treating its Kariwara derivative as a unique and individual system rather than a specific implementation of a larger whole.
