IT'S A SHORT TRIP from the U.S. coastline across the turquoise waters of the Caribbean to one of many Bahamian airports of entry. AOPA has a dedicated web section on flying there, and has released the 2019 Bahamas edition of the AOPA Pilot Guide. Pilots and passengers traveling to the Bahamas must have current passports. Pilots also must have a medical certificate (those flying under BasicMed are welcome), a restricted radiotelephone operators permit, and a letter of authorization if the aircraft is not registered in the pilot's name. Children traveling with only one parent must have a notarized statement of approval from the absent parent stating the dates of the trip.
