TIME SEEMS TO STOP on the gravel bar inthe serene solitude of the Susitna Riversouth of Talkeetna, Alaska. An eagleperches in a bare tree near its nest, and achunk of ice floats by after breaking freeupstream. No wonder gravel bar flyingattracts aviators in Alaska—it’s a placewhere pilots can escape from it all to fish,commune with nature, or enjoy a rusticcookout and campout.
