BASICMED, enacted on May 1, 2017, is turning 4 this year. As we approach this milestone, many are asking how to renew their BasicMed. Pilots approaching the 48-month expiration of their medical exam may renew their BasicMed qualifications in four simple steps. Print out a new Comprehensive Medical Exam Checklist (8700-2) from the AOPA or FAA website and completing section 2. Schedule a BasicMed medical exam with any state-licensed physician. Upon completion of the exam, the physician will return the exam form to the pilot. The medical exam expires every 48 months. Take the online medical self-assessment course and complete the brief quiz at the end. There is no need to study for the course, and the pilot can retake the course as many times as they need. The online medical self-assessment course must be retaken every 24 calendar months.
