There's good medical news for pilots with previous heart conditions. The FAA Cardiology Panel has made recommendations to the Federal Air Surgeon that will reduce the time and expense of obtaining a special issuance medical certificate for pilots who have had certain cardiac conditions. The changes include a reduction in the length of the recovery period for uncomplicated stent procedures, as well as modified requirements on a case-by-case basis for certification after recovery from heart attacks.
