Jim Wark's well-travelled Aviat Husky has taken him to the north slope of Alaska and the rain forests of Costa Rica. But the former U.S. Navy pilot and instructor regards the rugged, STOL airplane as the ultimate aerial photography platform more than a travel tool. During more than 20 years as an aerial photographer, Wark, 80, of Pueblo, Colorado, has logged more than 8,000 hours in his 1987 airplane, the ninth of more than 1,300 Huskys built at the factory in Afton, Wyoming. "The Husky is the perfect airplane for the type of aerial photography that I do, and I really can't find any fault with the airplane at all," said Wark, who recently handed the photography business-and the Husky-over to his son John. "I can open the clamshell doors in flight. The strut is far enough back that it's out of view. And it's got the range, speed, endurance, and high-altitude capability to get me and my camera where we need to be."
