When I worked as the planning supervisor for an oil tool company, one of my duties was to create the business plan, master schedule, and business forecasts with the vice president of marketing and sales. We compiled data to use in developing overall business plans, forecasts, new product plans, expansion plans for the plant, and hiring projections. We also used the data to set up contracts with our foundries, our chief suppliers. We realized we were dealing with a lot of unknowns, and those unknowns all interacted with each other. We also were working in a global industry affected by national and international politics and new technology.
