Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is considering whether there is a need for a change in the way food contact materials are regulated in Australia and New Zealand. The key issue is whether additional measures are required to increase the level of confidence in the health and safety of food contact packaging Earlier this year, in a presentation to the PCA, Dr Paul Brent, Chief Scientist, FSANZ, noted that there is continuing concern from consumers, the media and politicians about the presence of chemicals from packaging in foods and whether their presence is cause for concern for human health.
