Field and laboratory studies on the psychological and physiological effects of very low frequency noise on humans are being carried out in order to define limits for health hazard. The specific aims of this laboratory work were to determine: (l) differences, if any, in the performance of 2l normal hearing students in a series of psychological and physiological parameters, measured under three different experimental conditions (exposure to a l0Hz @ ll0 dB tone, exposure to a boiler noise filtered in l/3 octave band centered on l0Hz @ l05 ± 2 dB, and without sound exposure) and (2) whether anxiety and hearing threshold variables influenced those responses. Results showed certain differences in the body responnces and subjective judgements, between the exposure to the stimuli conditions and control condition. There were neither changes nor differences in the subjects performances of the phy- siological variables. Anxiety seems to have influenced some of the subjective judgements.
