In previous works the authors have expensively discussed the electrohydraulic approach o the active procession of strategic constructions (buildings, bridges) whose serviceability must be protected under extraordinary loading conditions. This article discuses the application of low-cost, self-contained, alternative solutions to the active control of bridge response: a servo-systemic, made up of two hydraulic drives with mechanical feedback, which exploit valve underlay effects and inject artificial damping in the structure, has been examined. Its application to the flexural-torsion control of bridge deck dynamics for a long-span cable stayed bridge is discussed.
