Modern radio applications place heavy demands on the RF designer to maxi-mize system performance in a highly variable environment. This typically involves transmission and reception of RF signals using complex modulation schemes. Reliable systems must accurately measure signal levels (i.e. RSSI) and decipher often fuzzy quadrature constellations. These challenges are compounded with the system dynamic range requirements approaching, and sometimes exceeding 90 dB. A 500 MHz receiver circuit is described here which measures the signal amplitude and phase over a 100 dB dynamic range.
