摘要

Those with an interest in archives should not be put off by the title or the price, this is emphatically not a book about complex mathematical analysis of data. Far from it, it is a series of delightful vignettes of archival odysseys in different context by the four authors written unusually from the perspective of users. As sociologists and feminist scholars approaching the archive from search rooms and catalogues, their frame of reference is at times refreshingly different from those of archival scholars who tend to focus almost exclusively on the supply side. Consequently, some well-known archival voices are absent, such as Eric Ketelaar and Verne Harris. However, there is a raft of literature that may well be unfamiliar. Derrida and Foucault as might be anticipated appear throughout, but so does Paul Ricoeur whose influence is often overlooked in the archival cannon.
