Since our last drone update, activities seem to have been more predominant in the field of payloads than in that of new airframe developments. Not that this should surprise anyone, really: when reading through our past issues, some sort of pause had to be expected in that department. rnA major milestone has been achieved in Europe, for once, with the completion of the first ground surveillance mission of a European male drone equipped with a European sensor. The mission, carried out from the Vidsel range in Sweden, was part of the final test phase of the Alenia Sky-Y, which carried the new Eost-46 electro-optical stabilised sensor developed by Selex Galileo. During its trial missions the aircraft demonstrated its ability to rntransmit data to a ground station using a satellite as relay station.
