摘要

Iran is to expand its local production with setting up assembly lines for Antonov An-148 regional jet, Tupolev Tu-204 narrowbody airliner and Kamov Ka-32 multipurpose helicopter. The Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) has considerably increased spending on development of the aerospace industry of its own since current administration came to power in 2005. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, himself a graduate of Tehran university with a degree in transport, has put into key positions in the government and the industry his former mates from the Basij (voluntary Islamic militia) and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corp (IRGC), most of whom also have had technical education (rather than theological, as in the previous administration of Mohammad Khatami). For instance, the minister for defense, Mustafa Mohammad Najjar, who supervises aerospace industry along with the Armed Forces, IRGC and Law Enforcement, holds a university degree in the machinery.
