With the opening of the Army Logistics University (ALU) at Fort Lee, Virginia, on 2 July 2009, most of the educational programs offered by ALU's predecessor, the Army Logistics Management College (ALMC), shifted to a new college under ALU: the College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE).rnThe new college, as the home of the functional courses that previously belonged to ALMC, needed an appropriate new name. After thoughtful consideration of a variety of proposals, the name "College of Professional and Continuing Education" was selected for three primary reasons. First, it effectively reflects the college's two central missions: professional development and continuing education. Second, CPCE is also well-suited to represent the college's three core competency areas: logistics, acquisition, and operations research.
