Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. targets to be on the black for its battery business, which it acquired from Sony Group in Sept. 2017, at an early stage. It expects sales of ¥250 to ¥300 billion by the end of FY2019 (March 2020). To turn the business into profitability, the company has decided to shift its focus from batteries for consumer products, like smartphones, tablet computers, and mobile personal computers to batteries for industrial equipment, such as energy storage systems and power tools for residential and industrial use, bush cutters, and electric bicycles.
