This meant that the Japanese supermarketrnsector faced a total sales fall of 0.7% in 2013 according to ourrndata. Though many countries have experienced a similarly poorrnperformance in their supermarket sectors, high growth areas ofrnconvenience and discount stores have boosted overall MGR growth.rnHowever, a similar scenario in Japan has barely prevailed, with BMIrnestimating total MGR sales to have grown by just 0.4% in 2013 inrnlocal currency terms.
