摘要

Thai-based drinks producer ThaiBev has agreed to pay US$2.8bn tonacquire a 22% stake in Singapore-based food and drink conglomeratenFraser & Neave (F&N). The firm will purchase the stake fromna group of financial owners including the Oversea-Chinese BankingnCorporation and its insurance unit Great Eastern Holdings. Inna related deal, the son-in-law of ThaiBev's founder and chairmannCharoen Sirivadhanabhakdi is to buy an 8.6% stake in Asia PacificnBreweries (APB), brewer of Tiger beer, through his Kindest Placenfirm. APB is currently a joint venture between F&N and Heineken, nand with Japanese brewer Kirin also holding a stake in F&N there arennow three rival firms with stakes in the attractive brewing businessn– a position which is arguably unsustainable and could ultimatelynlead to a battle for control.
