Jean-François van Boxmeer, the CEO of Dutch brewer Heineken n, recently commented that he was ‘uncomfortable’ with Japanese nbrewer Kirin ‘s share ownership take-up in its Asian joint venture npartner Fraser and Neave (F&N). As both Kirin and Heineken ncompetes in a number of markets such as the US and Europe, the nJapanese brewer’s 15% shareholder interest in F&N has put both ncompanies in an awkward position due to potential conficts of inter-nests in Asia. Given that Kirin and Heineken already have a signifcant nworking relationship in Asia, we see potential for the two companies nto engage in a broader partnership across the global markets, and nsuch a partnership would probably be benefcial to both parties.
