Very small aperture Terminals (VSATs) are small earth stations capable of receiving from, and sometimes transmitting to, satellites. They represent an important addition to the telecommunications industry because they can provide a service directly to users at virtually any geographic location covered by a suitable satellite beam. Further, VSATs do not require a local terrestrial network and can be operated from portable power supplies.
