摘要

As Internet Protocol (IP) is deeply transforming the nature of satellite traffic the world over, the business model for commercial teleports that provide uplinking/dowlinking services is evolving too. The uplinking/downlinking business, which is at the core of any teleport's activity, has existed since the first satellite earth station pointed at the first communications satellite. However, for years this activity could not be defined as a proper commercial enterprise because as long as the world of telecommunications has been characterised by monopolies, uplink facilities have been owned and operated exclusively by national carriers.
