Prysmian Group, a provider of solutions for the energy and telecom cable systems industries, has been selected to support the ongoing development of Singapore's next generation national broadband network (Next Gen NBN). Specifically, the vendor has won separate contracts worth around SGD35 million (US$25.6 million) from Singapore Telecom (Singtel) and NetLink Trust - the so-called 'NetCo' responsible for the construction, deployment and maintenance of the network's passive infrastructure, which is now owned by Singtel after it bought out its predecessor OpenNet in August 2013 - for the supply of optical fibers. In total, Prysmian Group will supply the two firms with up to 25,000km of optical fiber cables by 2018, which includes underground, flame retardant and ribbon types utilizing single mode fiber specification G652D and G657.
