Japanese telecoms operator KDDI (au) is reportedly planning to upgrade its networks to offer maximum download speeds of up to 220Mbps by mid-2014. Cellular News reports that the service will launch with an Android smartphone, and although details are scant, the utilized wireless technology could be a multi-carrier variant of Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A).
