A new Infonetics Research report entitled GPON Equipment in Brazil, Russia, India, and China (BRIC) Market Share and Forecast, which tracks 2.5G and 10G GPON equipment markets, estimates that during 2011 the BRIC countries accounted for half of global GPON equipment revenue. With respect to GPON in the BRIC countries, the study also highlights the following points: 1. Service providers in China spent $715 million on GPON equipment in 2011. 2. Spending on GPON solutions in Russia increased 79% year over year in 2011. 3. Huawei is the market share leader by revenue for 2.5G GPON in China, Russia and Brazil, while Alphion leads in India.
