Asia Pacific Telecom (APT) has begun offering a commercial 5G service, having done so both by leveraging a spectrum sharing agreement with Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) and using its own frequencies. In a press release outlining the development, APT confirmed it has launched 5G connectivity over both the 3.5GHz band, which it has access to via its deal with FET, and the 28GHz band. With regards to its use of the higher band spectrum, APT claims to have become the first domestic operator to use such frequencies commercially, highlighting the importance of doing so as it looks to target enterprise users. Its initial 28GHz deployment will focus on densely populated areas, while the Taipei Times reports that the cellco is aiming to turn a profit in the next three to five years by increasing revenue contribution from enterprise customers.
