摘要

The infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) has gained much popularity among the land-based armed forces as the favoured infantry support vehicle especially in the wheeled category. The wheeled designs are lighter than their tracked counterparts and thus are able to be quickly transported using current tactical airlifters such as the C-130, the heavy-weight C-17 Globemaster or the newly inducted A400M. As modern military operations mainly involving counter-insurgency or anti-terrorism combat, peacekeeping or humanitarian aid missions require vehicles capable of manoeuvring not only in extreme conditions and over harsh landscapes but also in urban areas where these vehicles need to move as fast possible to their destinations. Equipped with four, six or eight wheels, the IFVs are able to transport supplies, medical aids and soldiers into hot zones and at the same time provide fire support and shield for them.
