ADJ: The Japanese military has gone through baptisms of fire before it evolves to be the credible Japan Self Defence Forces (JSDF) as it is known today. Could you tell us the challenges faced by the service today and how different it was from the threats of the yesteryears? CoS: This year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the JSDF. Looking back upon the path we have walked along, there were times when we were turned stern eyes by the Japanese society. However, the JSDF now gains the trust of more than 90% of the citizens. I believe that it is entirely due to the fruit of the JSDF's steady and tireless efforts to maintain Japan's peace and security as well as those of the international community even in difficult times.
