An estimated 96% of banks experienced losses from debit card fraud in 2012, according to ABA's 2013 Deposit Account Fraud Survey. In addition to debit cards, an estimated 63% of banks incurred losses from check fraud in 2012. That said, the percentage of banks reporting losses from online and electronic channels remained low. There were 145 banking institutions that participated in the survey, which encompassed various areas of deposit account fraud, including check fraud, electronic check processing, debit cards, online banking, mobile banking, telephone banking, ACH, and wire transactions.
