A year or so back, Colin Forkner decided to retire from banking after 41 years in the business doing everything from providing investment advice to lending to running a bank to developing one of the first internet banks. He'd pretty much done it all. Yet a year after retiring, Forkner, now 62, found himself back in pinstripes. He had chucked his fishing pole after a group of leaders in San Clemente, Calif., invited him to take a look at their business plan for a new community bank. Forkner had thought initially only of joining the board, but decided to ac-cept the offer to become the fledgling bank's first CEO.
