Mortgage fraud is a complicated problem with no simple solution. There are smaller steps that can be taken, however, to protect consumers, lenders, communities and everyone else involved in the mortgage lending transaction from the negative repercussions of predatory lending. H.R. 1295 is one such step. By addressing concerns about the current weaknesses in the appraiser regulatory structure, H.R. 1295 seeks to prohibit inappropriate pressure of appraisers, provide greater accountability of federal and state appraiser regulators, and promote professionalism among appraisers.
