June brings vacations, greenery in full bloom, and distracting sunshine- and it also represents a median mark in the business year. Given that we're six months away from the usual winter IT prognostications, ABA Banking Journal decided to look into the emerging technologies that are, in fact, just starting to make their presence felt in the banking industry in 2005. To put together our list (see sidebar, at right), we did our own legwork, made a few judgment calls, and asked analysts to offer thoughts on what was getting actively piloted or receiving market attention now. One source was Stamford, Conn.-based Gartner, which creates industry-specific Hype Cycle reports that track technologies from the pre-peak to peak phases, when they are as common as e-mail. Forrester, another technology research company, runs an Emerging Technology Conference that provides a broad view of new technologies on the scene.
