Because of the unfolding catastrophe in New Orleans, few realize that the Alabama coastline experienced the brunt of Katrina's fury. Five-year-old Bay Bank operates three branches, one on Dauphin Island, one in Theodore, and one in Bailey's Corner. Amazingly, the Dauphin Island branch, located on the east side of the island, remained unscathed, while on the west end, 70% of homes were destroyed, according to Charles Ruffin, president and CEO of the bank.
