摘要

We were playing a bit of word association with Jim McLaughlin, director of Regulatory and Trust Affairs at ABA, in a Washington pub near the National Zoo. The place is one of the few remaining in the nation's capital that still qualifies as a "smoke-filled room." We ran through a list of former regulators and McLaughlin gave the impression, based on long experience, that he had of those people. Here's a sampling: 1. "A good lawyer who thought he knew everything." 2. "A master orchestrator of the press." 3. "She said all the right things, but alienated people. You often didn't want her on your side." 4. "An underappreciated hero to the banking industry during very difficult times."
