The technology is expected to aid inventory management through efficient tracking and reduced costs. Are Asian suppliers ready? Radio frequency identification (RFID) remotely stores and retrieves data with the use of devices called RFID tags, or smart labels. These tags contain microchips and antenna that transmit to computers information, such as the contents and description of product packages and containers. Industry experts envision RFID technology to dominate the future, replacing UPC and EAN barcodes. This technology is geared toward helping suppliers and retailers improve inventory management by efficiently tracking the flow of goods, reducing manual labor and human error.
