Seoul―LG Chem's share price has nearly tripled in the year since it was spun off from LG Chemical. This is a sign investors will reward Korean companies that open up to greater scrutiny and focus on a core business. Analysts and fund managers say the company is poised to do even better going forward, with the rebound in the domestic economy the likely trigger for improved results. LG Chemical, the oldest chemical company in Korea, split into LG Chem, LG Chem Investment and LG Household & Health Care last April to achieve "independence in management, eliminate cross shareholdings in other affiliates and guarantee transparency for investors," says Theodore Kim, a spokesman at LG Chem's international media relations.
