摘要

The nasa astrobiology institute (NAI) Focus Groups were initiated at a meeting of the NAI Executive Council at NASA Ames Research Center on 18 December 1999. The nature of the NAI Focus Groups was not defined at that time, with the expectation that each Focus Group would determine its own character. Many Focus Groups have been established and have been functioning for several years. Additional information can be obtained at the NAI website, http://www.nai.arc.nasa.gov. The NAI Virus Focus Group (NAIVIFOG) was approved on 9 September 2002 at the NAI Executive Council meeting at Pennsylvania State University (University Park). The NAIVIFOG charter was renewed, a workshop was held in Portland, OR (on 16 October 2003), and the Focus Group recently conducted its first combined Field Trip and Workshop. This report summarizes participants' abstracts, proposed research for Mono and Mammoth Lakes in eastern California, and the results of the workshop. Original abstracts are available online at http://web.pdx.edu/～kstedman/ NASA/Abstracts.pdf. The results of the research will be submitted for publication as the research is completed.
