Large-amplitude, long-wavelength Alfven waves in self-gravitating, magnetically supported clouds imply a linewidth-size relation (Δv)_(wave) approx= 1.4(B/30 μG)~(1/2)(R/1 pc)~(1/2) km s~(-1), where B is the mean magnetic field strength and R the radius of the cloud. This relation is in excellent quantitative agreement with observations of objects (clouds, cores, and OH masers) for which the nonthermal linewidth (Δv)_(NT), the FWHM size R, and the field strength B have been measured.
