The federal government s decision to abandon its $1600 in rebates for home insulation in wake of a number of deaths related to the installation of the product has left the future of a number of companies in doubt.When Geoff Aldridge heard the news in February 2009 that the federal government would offer $1600 in rebates for home insulation, he thought his 17-year-old, all-wool, all-Australian insulationrncompany, Higgins Insulation, would finally start kicking goals. With the government standing firmly behind its $2.5 billion insulation program, Aldridge started ramping up his production and taking on more staff in anticipation of a spike in demand. And for 12 months it did, with Higgins wool insulation orders up tenfold on the previous year.
