Around 75 metres of silk was used to create the skirt of an elaborate gown that celebrated all of the influences expressed by designer Aurelio Costarella in his showcase at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week (RAFW).rn"The bodice was corseted and boned; it was very structured," Costarella said. Taking two weeks to complete, the gown featured detailed pleating and flowers that were hand stitched at the final fitting, while a cut bias ruffle attached to a circular base. "I took inspiration from various points throughout fashion history: leather corsets inspired by the Victorian era, the bias cut gowns from the 1930s and the bust lines derived from the '50s," he said. "In the final couture piece, the whole collection came together."
