摘要

The development of a standard, open protocol for commercial building control systems has been a goal for many people over the past ten years. The search for this lingua franca (any system of communication providing mutual understanding, a language used for communication among people of different mother tongues) for the commercial controls industry has been a difficult one with many false starts and some failures along the way. It now appears that two protocols are dominating the field -LonWorks and BACnet. This paper investigates some of the features of the two protocols and how the market-place has accepted them.
