In 1995 the Clay Brick and Paver Institute (CBPI) commissioned CSIRO's Division of Building Construction and Engineering to measure the thermal conductivity of current Australian bricks and Zsembery, Clarke and McNeilly described the testing in a paper in Masonry International [1]. That paper compares brick density and thermal conductivity in 14 different Australian bricks, but subsequent examination indi- cates that one of the tested panels should not have been included because it includ- ed a layer of plasterboard and two of them were made from bricks with non- typical properties; one used a clay with an unusually high body density and one had very large cores so that it was laid with face-shell bedding rather than on a full mortar bed.
