In the past, Superior Chevrolet, Decatur, Ga., might have passed on an out-of-state retail sale because of shipping difficulties. Not anymore.rnLast fall, faced with moving five Chevy vans to Hawaii, fleet manager Dave Durepo called on UPS Automotive Industry Solutions to manage the truck and ocean legs of the shipment. Since then, UPS has helped Durepo cut his transportation costs by about 15 percent while expanding his service area. He has sent vehicles to fleet and retail customers in Florida, Texas, and Montana-far beyond the 350-mile radius he was limited to with smaller carriers. "In this environment you need any customer you can get," says Durepo.
