Managers at Trecek Automotive of Portage (Wis.) have gotten plenty of useful employee suggestions from their formal suggestion program. Staffers are encouraged to submit tangible ideas-such as ways to reduce costs, improve operations, or enhance customer service-to their department managers. Employees, using official forms, fully explain the problem, solution, and why they think the idea is feasible. Department managers read the suggestions, which then go to an in-house committee of managers for review. Staffers whose suggestions are accepted get cash awards ranging from $20 to $100, depending on the idea and impact on the dealership.
