Batten down the hatches. There's a new rule coming that's going to upset a lot of mechanics. This is the so-called sport pilot proposal, which will take the form of an FAA Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) sometime soon. The area of most concern to the maintenance industry will likely be the part of the rule that will allow owners to perform their own maintenance.
