Newcastle International Airport hopes to transform its disused control tower into the centrepiece of a planned £400,000 observation deck. The tower has remained largely unused following the opening of the airport's new Emirates-sponsored control tower in 2007 The control room of the old tower will be opened up to the public and feature information boards showing inbound and outbound flights. The plans include a covered walkway overlooking the airfield and classrooms for visiting schoolchildren.
