摘要

During the 1970s the Soviet Air Force needed a larger strategic aircraft than the propeller-driven Antonov An-22 Antei. The result was the An-124 Ruslan (NATO reporting name Condor). The first example delivered to the air force arrived at Sescha Air Base on February 10, 1987 for the 566th VTAP (Military-Transport Aviation Regiment), part of the 12th VTAD (Military-Transport Aviation Division), wearing the civil registration CCCP-82006. The VTA (Military-Transport Aviation) selected the best llyushin II-76 (the largest jet airlifter the Soviets had in service) pilots and instructor pilots for retraining on the new type at Sescha. Eleven more Ruslans arrived in 1987 and from 1988 to 1991 another 15 were delivered. All of them were allocated civilian registrations but four wore tactical numbers (08 black/CCCP-82005, 09 black/CCCP-82038,10 black/CCCP-82026 and 21 black/ CCCP-82033). These had a red star on the tail rather than the flag of the Soviet Union.
