The first flight of the six-seat Epic E1000 business aircraft took place on December 19. The aircraft, registered N331 FT (c FT1), was flown by Epic Aircraft's Chief Test Pilot David Robinson and has been built to production standard to enable the manufacturer to speed up flight testing to certification which is planned for later this year. The test programme will cover handling qualities throughout the flight envelope, operational and systems performance, extreme conditions and failure simulation, and flight into known icing conditions. A second aircraft, FT2 will join it this spring and will be allocated to testing fuel and hydraulic systems, the avionics and development of cabin and environmental systems.
