The question from an old pilot friend isn't uncommon: "I've got a decent IFR GPS and a pair of VHF nav boxes, both able to handle an ILS; what would WAAS get me?" A lot, if you fly IFR and like having as many approach op tions as possible. You see, that older, non-WAAS-but-still TSO'd GPS cuts you out of a lot of runway ends available for an approved WAAS installation. In addition to more-ac curate en-route flying and possibly fulfilling one element of an ADS-B Out solution, a panel-mounted WAAS GPS navi gator holds appeal on its own because of the new approach options available: LPV approaches (lateral precision with vertical guidance), LP approaches (localizer performance) and other replacements for old non-precision approaches.
